Time for history
Located in south-western France, in the Lot-et-Garonne region of Nouvelle Aquitaine, Monflanquin has held the "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" label since 1989.
The region is full of historic sites, beautiful villages and castles hidden amidst stunning landscapes.
Come and discover the land of fortified towns : founded in the south west of France between the beginning of the 8th century and the first half of the 9th, astonishly beautiful fortified towns fill the area. Five minutes away is Monflanquin, one of the ‘most beautiful villages of France’, ten minutes away is Villeréal and its fantastic covered market, fifteen minutes away is Issigeac an enchanting medieval city, and twenty minutes away is Monpazier with its historic buildings and art studios which will enchant you. A little further away discover medieval towns where you will enjoy going back in time such as the well known Bergerac and Sarlat but also Brantôme, Cahors, Eyzies, Puy l’Evèque etc...Enter the world of enchanted castles : crisscrossing the lush green valley of Gavaudin delight in the charms of the impressive Chateau de Biron or Chateau de Bonaguil.
For those who want to prolong their enjoyment of the Middle Ages or Renaissance environments, continue across the valley of the Dordogne by foot, bicycle or canoe and discover numerous castles such as Beynac, Cazenac, la Roque Gageac, Marqueyssac, ...an absolute treasure trove!
Feel like going off the beaten track? In the commune of Peyzac-le-Moustier, la Roque-Saint-Christophe is a unique and rare example of troglodyte dwellings and their evolution. Time stands still as bit by bit you discover this site from the Paleolithic to the Renaissance periods, via the Middle Ages. Everything has been lovingly restored making this troglodyte village a living history book on 55,000 years of human kind.
Time for gastronomy
Discover a region well known for the scope and quality of its local produce, come and taste the famous tomatoes from Marmande, prunes from Agen, nuts from Cancon, the walnuts, Garriguette strawberres, or truffles, foie gras and duck and goose conserves... which will titillate your tastebuds. You can find these delicacies along with delicious wines in the many colourful markets or you can buy them directly from the local producers and vineyards.
Time to relax
Enjoy the gîte and its outdoor space - the barbecue, swimming pool, jacuzzi, tennis court, trampoline, table tennis, boules pitch.
Nearby there is an 18-hole golf course at Castelnaud-de-Gratecambe (15 minutes away), a riding centre at Monflanquin (5 minutes away), a water park at Lougratte (15 minutes away) with supervised swimming, diving board, slide, beach-volley and fitness trail. Twenty minutes away at Villeneuve-sur-Lot or an hour away on the Dordogne you can go canoeing through the most beautiful countryside (wooded hills, superb castles sitting just by the river...).

Fly high on a zip wire for all ages at the Parc-en-ciel at Lacapelle-Biron (25 minutes away) in the Gavaudun valley.
Travel back to the Middle Ages with three medieval days in the middle of August at Montflanquin where there is the best medieval festival in France with knights fighting, a falconry show and snakes, flag throwing, music and dancing. Don’t miss Janouille la Fripouille who is an outstanding storyteller for an evening tour of Montflanquin where he reveals the secrets of local history to both young and old.
